Chiropractic is a method of treatment that manipulates body structures (especially the spine) to relieve low back pain or even headache or high blood pressure. Spinal adjustment or chiropractic adjustment is the most common treatment used in chiropractic care in the U.S., chiropractors perform over 90% of all manipulative treatments. In spinal manipulative the hands are used to manipulate, massage, mobilize, adjust, stimulate, apply traction to, or influence the spine.

Acupuncture is the procedure of inserting and manipulating needles into various points on the body to relieve pain or for therapeutic purposes. The acupuncturist decides which points to treat by observing and questioning the patient in order to make a diagnosis according to the tradition which he or she utilizes. There are four diagnostic methods: inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiring, and palpation. Acupuncture treatment is typically highly individualized and based on philosophical constructs as well as subjective and intuitive impressions, and not on controlled scientific research.
